This year's North West Regional Training Awards were presented by Sue Sharp, president of the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES), during a dinner held at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, Lancashire.

The Heating and Ventilating Award was presented to Liam Prestidge of national contractor Shepherd Engineering Services, which also received the Corporate Award for Commitment to Training, accepted by managing director Peter Lewis.

The Heating and Ventilating Fitter/Welder Award went to Jamie Thompson and the Electrician Award to Rowan Morgan – both of whom work for Shepherd Engineering Services. The two Engineering Technician Awards were won by Hayden Vann and Kieran Duffy of Emcor UK and Cofely UK respectively.

This year’s Incorporated Engineer Award was secured by Robert Cleworth from commissioning specialist End Systems, whose managing director Brian Townsend served as president of B&ES (then HVCA) in 2003/04.

Finally, Lee Campbell of James Mercer took top place in the Adult Experienced Worker category, and Robert Hamnett of Interserve Engineering Services won the Adult Existing Worker Award.

In her presidential address, Sharp congratulated the eight winners for their “hard work, their commitment and their determination to progress in their chosen career”.

She added: “Make no mistake – they represent the future, not only of our sector, but of the construction industry and the nation as a whole.”

Sharp concluded by thanking the North West Training Group and its hard-working chairman Peter Williams for the skilful management of the awards – along with NRL Recruitment and Pegler Yorkshire for their generous sponsorship.
