Trainee plumber Leah Parker proved she was more than a match for the boys when she won first prize in a plumbing competition at Cambridge Regional College.

The 17 year-old student, the only girl on the course, produced perfect pipework to take joint first in the competition, beating 36 other students.

Leah, whose ambition is to run her own plumbing business, said she was absolutely delighted to have won.

Thirty-eight students studying for a full-time Level 1 Building Services Plumbing qualification took part in the competition, showing off their skills soldering joints, speedfit joints and compression joints to manufacture a piece of pipework from scratch.

Construction manager Chris Jackson presented Leah and fellow winner Tom Johnstone with an engraved goblet and tankard respectively to mark their success.
