The latest workshop in association with the Working Well Together campaign saw the Scottish House Builders' Health & Safety Forum hold a Safety & Health Awareness Day this month (June).

With thousands of construction workers in the UK being killed or injured each year, the campaign aims to improve health and safety in the industry, especially in small businesses.

Attended by 116 delegates, the session included a showing of the Morrison Construction 'Buried Alive' DVD, featuring an account of what happened as a result of a trench collapse. The people involved in the incident, including the person caught in the collapse, attended the day to discuss the impact it had on their lives.

Delegates were then split into groups and given various scenarios in which to offer practical advice on,  including issues of cable detection and scaffold inspection.

After an evaluation of the event, organisers revealed the "vast majority" of attendants said they were going to make changes to their business as a result.
