Six men are charged with conspiracy to defraud merchant chain Jewson.

Six men have been charged in connection with an alleged £1 million fraud at UK builders’ merchant chain Jewson.

All six men have been charged with conspiring to defraud the merchant.

Among those charged are Jewson’s former sales and marketing director, Anthony Newman. He and another Jewson employee, Kevin Seager, were arrested in April 2008 and have remained on police bail since.

The offices in Binley, Coventry, where the alleged fraud is claimed to have taken place, is the company’s UK headquarters.

The inquiry, which dates back to 2003, first came to light in April 2008 after a tip off from a whistleblower, when irregularities were spotted in the company’s accounts. Following an internal investigation, bosses at the Binchley Road site reported the incident to police.

All those charged will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court in July.

Jewson is owned by parent company Saint Gobain.
