City & Guilds will be launching two new Level 1 qualifications on the Qualifications and Credit Framework on 2 September 2013.

These new qualifications will be aimed at those considering a career in the plumbing or electrotechnical industry, giving them the opportunity to try a variety of tasks within this basic skills qualification.

The new Level 1 qualifications are suitable for individuals of any age. Learners don't need any experience – they just need to be serious about having a go and seeing if plumbing or electricalinstallation is the right career for them. The two new qualifications are as follows:

John Thompson, chief executive of the Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC), said: “The plumbing course has been designed as a taster award and is a welcome addition to the City & Guilds portfolio. It will help learners try out some of the basic skills involved in plumbing before deciding whether a particular career path in the plumbing industry is for them.”

Chris Bailey, portfolio manager for City & Guilds, added: “We have received a number of enquiries from our centres for both Level 1 plumbing and electrical qualifications for those learners who want to learn either basic plumbing or electrical skills, but who do not yet meet the entry requirements in order to study our Level 2 & 3 plumbing and electrical qualifications. This allows them an entry point into the plumbing or electro-technical industry and gives them the opportunity to progress onwards and upwards in their chosen career.”

City & Guilds will be hosting an online webinar during July 2013, during which they will showcase the assignments in more detail and answer any queries people have regarding the new qualifications.
