The Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC) has welcomed the increase in the promotion of all prosecutions for unsafe installation work by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in their weekly e-bulletin.

The number of promoted prosecutions for illegal and/or unsafe gas works has increased since the start of the year and was one area that many APHC members and installers called for in the Gas Enforcement Review, carried out by Gas Safe Register in 2009.

Graeme Dryden, APHC technical manager, said: “We are pleased to see an increase in the number of prosecutions for unsafe gas works being promoted in the HSE weekly e-bulletin. Many in the industry, including our members, feel that an increase in the promotion of such prosecutions will cut down the number of rogue installers trying to get work. Publication of the details of these cases also reinforces the message that the HSE are taking action against the rogue element – if your work is dangerous or illegal, HSE will prosecute.”

The HSE are now promoting prosecutions on a regular basis in their daily digest e-bulletins. For more details or to subscribe visit: http://www.hse.gov.uk/news/subscribe/index.htm.
