Minister of Energy & Climate Change Greg Barker has announced the first schemes to be supported under the Green Deal Communities initiative.

The six areas to be invested in are Cambridgeshire, Ashfield, Suffolk, Peterborough, six north London boroughs led by Haringey, and Bracknell Forest. Together, they represent £19.5 million and aim to deliver more than 5,500 Green Deal Plans to 7,000+ households.

The Department of Energy & Climate Change’s (DECC) Green Deal Communities initiative aims to deliver Green Deal plans to as many households as possible through area-based funding proposals.

The proposals are judged on the following criteria:

There is now £80 million of capital funding available, and local authorities will be strongly encouraged to work together and with local partners to deliver.
