A recent project has challenged the viability, safety and effectiveness of stainless steel as an alternative to copper in the production of hot water storage cylinders.

It also identified a lack of regulation and guidelines surrounding the production of stainless steel cylinders, which can result in inadequate manufacturing processes within the industry and the production of cylinders that are prone to internal corrosion.
