Tradesmen from across the UK and Northern Ireland are invited to enter this year's Britain's Top Tradesman competition from Screwfix.

Not only will this year’s winner carry the title of Britain’s Top Tradesman, but they will also win the keys to a brand new £28,000 Toyota van with all the gadgets and livery they need.

Last year, Tom Ball (pictured), a joiner from Cheshire, walked away with the crown after fighting off stiff competition from thousands of entrants. He says it has had an amazing impact on his business, Tom Ball Joinery, bringing him new customers and filling his workbook for months.

“It has been an incredible year,” said Mr Ball. “Holding the title of Britain’s Top Tradesman has been a great endorsement for the business and for myself. When customers see that someone in the local area has won this award from Screwfix, they want you out on their job straight away. The last year has been great. I would really encourage other tradesmen to enter and give it a go.”

The Britain’s Top Tradesman Award is given to those who can prove they excel in their business. Tradesmen have until 14 September 2014 to put their case forward and enter the competition.

John Mewett, marketing director at Screwfix, explained: “We run this competition to reward quality tradesmen and celebrate their success. The regional rounds enable people working in the trade to meet up, share ideas and tell us about what’s happening on the ground. It’s the fifth year we have run this competition, and two plumbers have claimed the title overall – could they make it a hat-trick this year?

“The standard of entries is always really high and we are looking forward to meeting and rewarding those tradesmen who go that extra mile. This year’s winner will receive a Toyota van and the title of Britain’s Top Tradesman 2014, so it’s well worth taking the time to fill out the easy application form.”
