HBS – the mechanical, electrical and new energies contractor – has acquired solar specialist Riomay’s solar design and installation activities.

Riomay was founded in 1977, and since then worked predominantly in the construction sector on newbuild and commercial rooftop installations. Meanwhile, HBS is a national company that was established in 1950, currently employing about 150 staff, and has installed PV to the roofs of over 5,000 homes.

The acquisition was intended to further build HBS’ solar capability, particularly using Riomay’s track record and expertise in commercial rooftop installations. Riomay’s business will now be integrated into the New Energies division of HBS Group Southern.

“We are very excited about the Riomay acquisition,” said James Bull, director and head of HBS’ New Energies division. “At HBS, we have always reinvested in infrastructure to build our business, and the acquisition of Riomay is the most recent example of this.

“We are committed to renewable energy and are now building the critical mass necessary to offer all housebuilders and commercial contractors not only a leading quality of service, but also the best PV prices possible.”
