Don’t neglect flood protection measures, says TrustMark

As the wintry weather and high winds continue to cause disruption across many parts of the UK, timely advice on tackling water damage is being given to homeowners by TrustMark and its scheme operator, the Property Care Association (PCA).

Addressing the issue of safeguarding properties from flood damage, Steve Hodgson, chief executive officer of the PCA, said: “There needs to be a way that’s not just about mopping a building out easily – water needs to stop entering a building completely.

“We strongly advise that the best way to deal with flood protection is to only use specialists who understand the subject. For too long, people without any training or experience of this type of work have been allowed to carry out repairs, with devastating economic and emotional impact. The majority of homeowners don't think twice about fitting smoke alarms into their homes, so if a property is at risk of being flooded, then the installation of property level flood precaution measures should also be considered in the same manner.”

TrustMark’s chief executive Simon Ayers agreed, adding: “By employing a TrustMark PCA-registered flood specialist, homeowners will have the reassurance and confidence that they are working with the best in the business.”

The PCA recently launched its Flood Protection Group, which will provide a trusted route to find experts who can provide systems and products to protect against water damage in both newbuild and refurbishment environments.
