The British Safety Council will launch a think tank to influence health and safety legislation.

It will set up a specialist unit to inform policy, undertake research, campaign and influence important workplace health & safety issues.

The council claims its think tank will have an enhanced policy, communications and research capability.

Neal Stone, who will head the think tank, said it will use its findings to influence and affect change among employers, trade associations, MPs and government.

It will also promote practical new solutions to the root causes of safety problems; promote the benefits of a sensible approach to safety; and run campaigns on issues including young-worker safety.
