Boiler manufacturer Baxi is marking Gas Safety Week by launching its search for a Gas Safe Hero.

The annual safety week, taking place between 14 and 20 September, aims to raise awareness of gas safety across the UK. It is co-ordinated by Gas Safe Register with support from the gas industry including installers, merchants and manufacturers.

Baxi will launch its search on social media, inviting gas safe engineers to post examples of where they have made a dangerous gas situation safe to its Twitter and Facebook feeds.

Once named Baxi’s Gas Safe Hero, the winner will receive £150 worth of vouchers and be featured across Baxi’s social media channels.

Baxi will also be giving away one carbon monoxide alarm to its social media followers every day of Gas Safety Week, helping to raise awareness of the dangers of this odourless and colourless gas among homeowners.

In line with industry standards, Baxi always recommends that consumers have their gas appliances checked once a year by a Gas Safe registered installer as part of their annual service.

Paul Hardy, managing director at Baxi, commented: “With 23 million households in the UK using gas for heating and hot water, gas safety is a huge issue for both the heating industry and the consumer.

“Our Gas Safe Hero campaign is designed to champion engineers up and down the country, while our giveaway of carbon monoxide detectors will help to hammer home the dangers of unsafe gas appliances.”
