Affordable housing provider Circle Anglia is searching for a partner to invest in a scheme to provide solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on its UK homes.

Installation will start this summer and the project aims to take advantage of the Feed-in Tariff funding as part of Circle Anglia's bid to address energy poverty.

Under the scheme, energy suppliers make regular payments to the provider which generates electricity from the solar panels.

After gaining feedback through interested parties completing its prequalification questionnaire, the company will appoint one provider to take full responsibility for the funding, delivery, installation and long-term operation and maintenance of the solar PV panels.

Homes set to benefit from the scheme include those owned by Circle Anglia, including single dwellings, sheltered schemes and flat blocks – provided they are suitable for solar panel installations.

Installation is expected to run for two years. The provider will install the panels to provide free electricity generated by the panels to the relevant residents during the day, while generating an income from the excess energy sold to utility providers.

John Daley, assistant director of asset strategy at Circle Anglia, said: "This project will be a real example of how private investment can provide benefits to our residents.

"It will help us to achieve our aim of enhancing the life chances of our residents by reducing energy costs as well as making Circle Anglia's homes more energy efficient."
