Installers prefer manufacturer training sessions on a Friday morning that focus on installationa and maintenance, according to a Europe-wide survey

The latest report of the European Mechanical Installation Monitor asked 1,200 HVAC installation companies, across six EU countries, about the type of training they looked for, and when they preferred to take it. The survey revealed that most installers preferred to undergo training in the beginning of the year, while in the UK the summer months were also a popular time to be away from the tools. Installers in all countries preferred to attend training sessions on a Friday morning.

Where countries differed was in the length of training session they wanted to take part in. Polish installers, for example, were most likely to participate in longer training sessions, while Dutch and UK installers preferred shorter ones.

According to the report, the most popular topics installers wanted to undergo training for was related to product installation and maintenance, as well as troubleshooting. There was also quite a high interest in new laws and regulations, especially in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.

The installers were asked who they wanted to be trained by - external training centre, wholesaler or manufacturer. Perhaps unsurprisingly, where the training related to specific products and their installation, maintenance or commissioning, installers wanted manufacturer-led training.

External training centres, however, were liked for topics such as laws and regulations, or training on sales and marketing.

Furthermore, when joining manufacturer-led training, most installers were then interested in becoming a certified or 'approved' installer for that manufacturer, according to the study.
