Installers could get £2,000 towards a brand new van as part of Ford's new scrappage scheme.

Ford, which manufactures the Transit Custom van as well as many other vehicles including the Ford Fiesta, is offering to allow customers to trade in and scrap any brand of older vehicle, as long as the vehicle was registered before the end of 2009 and has a pre-Euro V standard engine.

The scheme is designed to remove older, more polluting vehicles from the UK's roads, and to replace them with more modern, cleaner models.

Customers can then claim a scrappage incentive against a range of new Ford vehicles, and can combine the scrappage incentive with existing Ford deals and discount offers, enabling them to achieve discounts worth up to £7,000 when purchasing a new Transit van.

Andy Barratt, Chairman and Managing Director of Ford of Britain, said: "Ford shares society's concerns over air quality. Removing generations of the most polluting vehicles will have the most immediate positive effect on air quality, and this Ford scrappage scheme aims to do just that. We don’t believe incentivising sales of new cars goes far enough and we will ensure that all trade-in vehicles are scrapped."
