Sheffield is Britain's solar hot spot, according to a new report from Which? magazine.

The report reveals that small-scale energy generation using solar power or wind turbines has grown by 400% since the introduction of the government's Feed-in-Tariffs system 18 months ago.

The other top ten hotspots are: Leeds, Liverpool, London, Bristol, Manchester and Glasgow.

David Hunt, a director with renewable energy company Eco Environments, said: "The Which? report comes as no surprise to us as we are seeing more and more enquiries from homeowners and businesses wanting to go ahead with small-scale renewable energy schemes. Many of the areas highlighted in the top ten are the same places we are witnessing significant business growth.

"The government's Feed-in-Tariffs system, introduced last year, transformed the sector overnight because of the significant financial as well as environmental benefits attached to both solar PV and wind turbine schemes."

Eco Environments, which designs and installs renewable energy systems increased its turnover to £1.4m last year and is one of a small number of companies with Microgeneration Certification Scheme accreditations for all four of its specialist areas.
